"SWAP changes maladaptive behavioral and
psychological patterns affecting sleep, thereby
optimizing physical & mental health"
Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS)
PCS is a result of mild traumatic brain injury. PCS is a complex array of neuropsychiatric symptoms including: headaches, dizziness, depressed mood, irritability, anxiety, and cognitive problems. An integrative approach to improving disordered sleep helps ameliorate these symptoms.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Mental Health
There is increasing evidence of the bidirectional relationship between sleep and mental health. Disordered sleep and nightmares are hallmarks of PTSD and involve the central nervous system being in a hyperaroused state. The integrative approach used at SWAP promotes parasympathetic tone by using yoga, meditation, biofeedback, and other healing modalities.
Fibromyalgia
and Chronic Physical/Mental Pain
There is a bidirectional association between poor sleep and chronic pain. By educating patients about sleep hygiene and providing them with strategies to improve their physical and mental functioning there can be significant improvement in pain symptoms.
Students
Poor sleep quality adversely affects academic and social functioning. This is an unrecognized health issue affecting many high school and university students. Comprehensive treatment can improve: cognitive issues with processing speed, memory and concentration, low or irritable mood, and academic performance.
